Tenek are an Electro pairing based in Brighton, UK. Both guys in the band have been part of the scene for a while but came together in the production team Alien 6, working together in Tenek as a two piece.
They are producing accomplished electro/darkwave crossover mixing guitar stabs and classic synth pop which works brilliantly to produce introspective yet uplifting anthems. Technology is utilised perfectly without being ‘overdone’ to produce infectious songs for both the masses and the underground scene. Very accomplished and at times reminding me of moodier version of the Marc Almond (Fantastic Star phase), Heaven 17 or Pet Shop Boys with a far deeper sound and lyric. The more I listen the harder it is to stop!
They hit the scene in 2007, and released their debut LP ‘Stateless’ in 2009. Their second album, On the Wire, is out now.
The music is up tempo and very danceable, the songs excellently mixed and produced. These guys are getting huge underground success, and i hope after the exposure of touring with De/Vision and the Human League during last year, hitting the festivals and schedules this year should help them make the leap into the mainstream.
Lucky for me as they are local and I will be taking the opportunity to see them in action in August and review their live performance here too.
